Opera for Kids

Opera for Kids is a project aimed at educating children in what opera is and to help them feel less enstranged from this wonderful historic art form. Bringing opera into schools allows a child to access this world in a familiar environment, a world that in many cases would otherwise be completely missed out on.


We offer a variety of services ranging from a 45 minute presentation to workshops which can result in a unique opera performed and created by the children.


The presentation consists of the live performance of two arias with english surtitles (equipment permitting). Talking with the children about the arias, what opera is, different voice types and where they might have heard opera in their everyday lives will all help them gain a better understanding and awareness of opera.

In the workshops the children explore the many aspects of putting on an operatic production. Time can be taken to create an opera utilising some simple famous arias incorporating the children's own words and story. The children will be given coaching to sing and act out their unique production.
